Usability Test

This is a usability test on Arc'teryx's website, conducted alongside three other UX/UI designers and researchers. This project was completed within 3-4 weeks and tests were held via Zoom.

My main responsibilities in this project consisted of interviewing one participant, creating one user persona, creating pre-test and post-test questions, and analyzing user testing results.

Role:

UX Researcher

Usability Hub, Treelly, Google Forms

Overview

As a group, we narrowed down Arc’teryx’s target audience to two archetypes: adrenaline junkie and recreational outdoorsman. User personas were created for each of these archetypes to help us recruit the right candidates for the user testing, and understand the website’s users more.

Each of us recruited one participant to perform the user testing, and we all conducted the tests over 1-hour Zoom sessions per participant.

First, participants completed a pre-test questionnaire to affirm that we have picked suitable candidates that match our user personas. They then completed four user task scenarios on the website. Lastly, they filled out a post-test questionnaire to give us more details of how they felt about the website’s user experience. Data from the post-test questionnaire were calculated using the system usability scale.

User Research Tools

  1. Preference Test – used to measure the aesthetic appeal
  2. Five-Second Test – used to measure how well a design communicates a message in a short amount of time
  3. First Click Test – used to verify if a given task is clear and easy to complete
  4. Tree Test – used to measure how easily users can find information
